As Montenegro is the front-runner for the next EU Member State and it seems that after 2025 it could actually enter the EU, Faculty of Law, University of Montenegro, noticed that Montenegrin legal profession is in dire need of young professionals educated in all aspects of EU law.

Recognized as by far the largest law school in Montenegro, as well as the single public one, Faculty of Law decided to create new educational programme in EU Internal Market Law and to include it in its Business law master studies.
The main goal of the project is to increase awareness of both Montenegrin legal profession and general public of the importance of creating a system of continuous and methodical education in the field of EU Internal Market law, particularly so in light of Montenegro being the candidate country closest to reaching the full EU membership, as well as to better prepare young professionals for the tough challenge of becoming lawyers in an EU Member State and consequentially boost their professional capacities and employability rate.

By acquiring systematic knowledge through master course, participation in conferences and panel discussions organized within the project, the first generation of students within MLEUIM will perhaps become the first formally educated generation about the European internal market in Montenegro. This generation will have the strong potential for helping the preparation of Montenegrin legal profession to coop with soon to come very demanding challenges of the full EU membership.

A minimum of ten master’s thesis topics related to EU law of the internal market will be approved by the end of the project, while the scientific conference during the project will encourage young researchers to work on new topics in this, for Montenegro, insufficiently researched field. Not only that the project activities will lead to innovations in the legal academic research sphere, but it will also play a significant role in legal practice, as it would also prepare other important socio-political actors for the requirements of European regulation.

In the long run, the project will have a number of positive consequences for the legal community in Montenegro. It will enhance employability of young jurists, improve career prospects for young graduates, increase opportunities for academic staff for professional and career development, support young researchers and professors of EU subjects, it will also increase interest in understanding and participating in the European Union, which leads to a more active citizenship and improvement for a society as a whole.
